Drogheda United's relegation battle has suffered a major setback with first-choice goalkeeper Luke Dennison ruled out for the rest of the season. The 2-1 defeat to Bohemians on Friday night saw Dennison break his arm late in the first half, an injury confirmed by the club in an official statement.

"Drogheda United can confirm that goalkeeper Luke Dennison is to miss the remainder of the season after he suffered a broken arm during the first half of Friday's game away to Bohemians," the club said. Fynn Talley replaced Dennison for the remainder of the match, which saw Andrew Quinn score a 73rd-minute equaliser before Dawson Devoy won it for Bohemians in the 90th minute.

Manager Kevin Doherty must now plan for the final four games without his number one. Drogheda United sit ninth in the Premier Division on 34 points, level on points with Waterford but ahead on goal difference in the relegation play-off spot. They have a nine-point cushion over bottom side Sligo Rovers. The club's statement added, "All at Drogheda United wish Luke the best in his recovery."

Doherty's side, who have lost three of their last four league matches, next travel to face Shamrock Rovers on 9 October. This key fixture will be preceded by a friendly against Turkish side Trabzonspor. The last meeting between the sides at Head in the Game Park ended in a goalless draw.
