The 25-year-old arrives from National League side Tamworth, where he made 42 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. Bates brings a wealth of experience to the club, having previously played for Coventry City, Birmingham City, Walsall, SJK Seinäjoki, and Brackley Town.

Bates began his career in the academies of Coventry City and Birmingham City before making his senior breakthrough at Walsall, where he played 68 times. He later moved to Finland to join top-flight side SJK Seinäjoki, featuring in European competition during his time with the club. After returning to England, Bates joined Brackley Town and made 107 appearances across two seasons, helping the side win the National League North title and secure promotion to the National League.
